My grandmother's house has boxes and cupboards full of Super 8 casters. All filmed and neatly sorted by my grandfather, who I never met. The work is a poetic approach to freedom and connection to the elements that one feels when sailing.
The source material is the private recordings of leisure sailing and competitions. For the video, I looked for the different views of the camera on the water and removed personal elements.
The material came with no sound, so I collaborated with the musician Sarah Hezen, who created a soundtrack based on field-recordings from my grandfather.
